Rare Steve Jobs Photos Surface of His Return to Apple in 1996

This article highlights how a Mac user, Tim Holmes, posted these rare pics of Steve Jobs' 1996 return to Apple with an Apple QuickTake camera. While the picture makes it appear as if Jobs is wearing a Willy Wonka-esque purple coat, it apparently was due to the inaccuracy of the camera's color -- his coat was actually black. I guess that's why that camera was put on the chopping block when Jobs returned.

This story reminded me of a moment in 1997 when I was somewhat of an anomaly as an Apple fan working at IBM and I was surprised and excited one day to see our building management guys holding one of those black cameras with the multicolored Apple logo on it. It was truly a rarity. By no means did it seem at that time that Apple would rise out of what seemed like ashes. Thankfully it did and thankfully its camera technology in its phones got much, much better.
